Back in August, I interviewed Nik Kershaw for The 80s Annual Vol. II, which will be published next month. After our interview, he agreed to be a guest on the My 80s radio show, choosing his Favourite Five 80’s songs. We weren’t quite sure when that would be, as Nik had a busy couple of months ahead of him. However, I caught up with him towards the end of his tour, and we recorded Nik chatting about his Favourite Five ahead of his gig in Margate, at the beginning of October.
The interview will air on this Thursday’s My 80s 9-11pm on Mad Wasp Radio. It’s a good one, so be sure to tune in!

The Favourite Five feature on the My 80s radio show, in which my special guests choose their five favourite songs from the Eighties, is proving popular with listeners. All My 80s shows are uploaded to Mixcloud, but just to make things a little bit easier when searching for a particular show, I’ve listed the shows by guest below. Happy listening!
Things really have been buzzing on Mad Wasp Radio, and this week’s special guest on the My 80s radio show, choosing his Favourite Five 80’s tracks, is Blue Zoo’s Andy O. Listen from 9pm this Thursday to hear Andy’s choices plus the latest release from the band.
The show will also be repeated on Saturday 1-3pm and Sunday 7-9pm, and available on Mixcloud after its first broadcast.
I have never made any secret of the fact that my all time favourite song of the entire Eighties is The Kane Gang’s “Closest Thing To Heaven”. So, you can imagine how delighted I was when former band member, David Brewis, agreed to appear on this week’s My 80s radio show. Tune in from 9pm this Thursday (14th Sept) to hear the multi-instrumentalist choose his Favourite Five 80’s tracks and talk about his new album Autoleisureland. I will also be playing a track from the album, but if you can’t wait until then you can order your copy from autoleisureland.com.
Just a reminder that this week’s My 80s radio show will not be broadcast in its usual slot tonight at 9pm. Instead, it will go out this Saturday (9th September) at 1pm, as part of the Mad Wasp Radio launch weekend. The show will also be repeated at 8am the following Monday.
We return to our usual slot of 9-11pm on Thursday 14th September, with that show then being repeated the following Saturday at 1pm and Monday at 8am. As before, all My 80s shows will be available on Mixcloud after their initial broadcast.
Requests for a song to be played on the show or suggestions for the Back On Track (any track from an 80’s album that was not released as a single) and Word Up (song featuring that week’s word in the lyrics or title) features can be made via the show’s Facebook page, via Twitter @MyEighties using #My80s or via the contact form on my website.
I look forward to chatting to you on Saturday, when I will be making my Mad Wasp debut, hot on the heels of the Rockabilly ‘N’ Blues Radio Hour. To check out what other fantastic shows Mad Wasp Radio has on offer, take a look at their weekly schedule. Scroll to the bottom of the page for the week’s schedule at a glance.
For the past eleven weeks, I have been broadcasting My 80s Radio Show on Thursday nights between 9 and 11pm on Radio Cabin. I will continue to do so for the next fortnight and then the show is moving to Mad Wasp Radio, where I shall be rubbing headphones with the likes of Steve Blacknell and Garry Bushell.
The show will retain its Thursday evening time slot, as well as regular features Monster Mash Up, Back On Track and Word Up. I also have an array of special guests lined up to choose their Favourite Five 80’s tracks, I will continue to tweet throughout the show on #My80s, and all shows will be uploaded to Mixcloud once they have aired. The only real difference is where you will listen to the show, i.e. the station with a sting in its tail!
Mad Wasp Radio officially launches on 8th September, and the first My 80s will air on Thursday 14th September at 9pm. My final show for Radio Cabin goes out on Thursday 31st August, and will be a farewell to the station party, so get those requests for cheesy, fun tunes coming in. Email me: firstname.lastname@example.org, post on the show’s Facebook page or tweet me @MyEighties using #My80s. You can also use Facebook and Twitter to send me your requests for the show’s launch on Mad Wasp. It’s going to be buzzing!
