Johnny may well hate jazz but lead singer Clark Datchler showed he loves My 80s when he chose his Favourite Five 80’s songs for the show. Listen to Radio Cabin this Thursday from 9pm to hear my interview with the singer/song writer, as well as the fabulous songs he has picked.
Today, I am putting together this Thursday’s My 80s show, and it looks set to be a belter! My special guest this week is Leee John, who will be putting a little twist on our Favourite Five feature. Regular listeners will know that guests usually choose their Favourite Five 80’s tracks, but Leee will be picking his five all-time favourite songs and talking about how they influenced him as an artist.
He has picked some great tracks, and I found it fascinating how elements of those songs helped to shape not only the music of Imagination, but also Leee’s vocal style.
I will also be playing Leee’s latest single “Do It Right Now”, as well as lots of the fantastic requests everyone has been sending me, including those for our Make It Big and Back On Track feature. There are also a couple of fun changes coming soon to the show, which I will announce on Thursday evening, so be sure to listen to Radio Cabin from 9pm. I’ll see you there …
Some voices are so distinctive you know who is singing the second they hit that first note. Former H2O frontman, Ian Donaldson, has one of the most beautifully recognisable voices of the Eighties and, I am pleased to say, he is my special guest on tonight’s My 80s Radio Show. Listen to Radio Cabin from 9pm this evening to hear him choose his Favourite Five tracks from the decade, and talk about his current musical ventures.
I can’t believe it’s almost that time of the week again when I take to the airwaves to bring you two hours of music and memories from the Eighties. Tomorrow night will see My 80s show number 6 broadcast on Radio Cabin, and another guest choosing his Favourite Five 80’s tracks. The feature was originally intended to appear on the occasional show, but the response from both guests and listeners has been so great that I currently have a Favourite Five lined up for every week until September. So, not only will I be bringing you some interesting chats with some of the decade’s best known artists, but they have also chosen some seriously good tunage!
This Thursday, it is the turn of former Frankie Goes To Hollywood guitarist Brian ‘Nasher’ Nash to treat us to his musical magic five. Listen tomorrow night 9-11pm to hear Nasher’s choices, what he has to say about them and much, much more.
All past My 80s shows are uploaded to Mixcloud. Guests on previous shows include Soft Cell’s David Ball (Show 5), Musical Youth’s Dennis Seaton (Show 4) and Modern Romance’s Andy Kyriacou (Show 2).
Listeners to last night’s My 80s Radio Show will have noticed the technical hitch we experienced in the second half of the show, when the first hour was repeated instead of the second hour being aired. Having spoken to the powers that be, I am delighted to announce that the show will be aired again tomorrow (Saturday 8th July) between 6-8pm on Radio Cabin.
Not only that, but this will be the case for all future My 80s shows. So, we will continue to broadcast My 80s on Thursday evenings between 9-11pm, and then that show will be repeated on Saturday 6-8pm. In addition, all shows are uploaded to Mixcloud for you to listen to at your leisure, so there really is no escaping me!
This Thursday evening, I will be joined by David Ball on My 80s radio show. The multi instrumentalist and former member of Soft Cell and The Grid chooses his Favourite Five 80’s songs and, as you might expect from someone with his music pedigree, he has given me some excellent tracks to play. Listen from 9pm online: www.radiocabin.co.uk or on air in the Herne Bay area at 94.6 FM.
Past My 80s shows are available on Mixcloud and song requests can be made via Facebook on the My 80s show page, on Twitter using #My80s and via email: email@example.com.
Last Saturday I was invited to join Modern Romance as they performed as the house band at BBC Radio Kent. We all had a fantastic time as the band played their hits from the Eighties as well as new material, such as ‘Seven Days’. My vlog on my YouTube channel shows a little of what went on that morning.
Once the band had finished playing, I caught up with lead singer Andy Kyriacou for a chat about his Favourite Five 80s songs. Tune in to Radio Cabin tonight from 9pm to hear the interview we recorded, as well as some rather fabulous music from the decade.
To make a request to be played during the show, which airs every Thursday 9-11pm, tweet me @MyEighties using #My80s, post on the show’s Facebook page @My80sRadioShow or send me an email: firstname.lastname@example.org . I look forward to playing your songs!
Well, that much anticipated day has finally arrived. I don’t mean that first-past-the post race which has had everyone at each other’s throats for the last couple of months. This is something that will bring people together in a swathe of fabulous music from a decade when we could have fervent political debates and still remain friends.
Tonight at 9pm, My 80s Radio Show launches on Radio Cabin. Two hours of some of the best music from the Eighties plus a bit of waffling from yours truly. Listen online or on 94.6 FM if you are in the Herne Bay area.
During the show, I will also be on social media so tweet me @MyEighties or the station @radiocabin with your comments and requests, using #My80s or post on the show’s Facebook page @My80sRadioShow. Speak to you later!
You may recall that a couple of weeks ago I was a guest on Herne Bay’s Radio Cabin. I was in the studio to talk about my latest book ‘More Eighties’ on the Thursday evening Fishy & Chippy Show. When we came off air, it was suggested that I host a weekly 80’s show for the station, and I am delighted to announce that from Thursday 8th June I will be doing exactly that.
Following hot on the heels of my DJ pals Fishy & Chippy, the My 80s Radio Show will go out every Thursday from 9pm to 11pm. Those in the Herne Bay area can tune in old school style on 94.6 FM, whereas those further afield can listen online via the Radio Cabin website.
I am currently working on the playlist for the first show, and requests can be sent to me in a number of ways. Contact me via the station’s email: email@example.com, Facebook and Twitter pages or through my own Twitter account: @MyEighties using the hashtag #My80s. I have also set up a Facebook page for the show @My80sRadioShow, so come and give us a ‘like’ and a track request.
There are no request rules other than songs must be from the Eighties but, even then, if it can be tenuously linked to the decade, a particularly good tune could still get on the show. Yes, that may well be my way of ensuring some of my favourite releases from The Jam and The Specials get played!
Without giving too much away, the show will include a couple of special request features, and there are also interviews planned with some lovely 80’s artists who have agreed to have a chat with me. During the show, I will be on social media so listen in, let me know what you think and let’s have some proper 80’s fun. Roll on 8th June!
